What if RocketScreens doesn't support one of my platforms?

RocketScreens has a number of options to pull content from any system. We're confident we can get your content out.

We've worked hard to support as many systems as possible, and we're always adding more. However, we can't possibly integrate with every platform, and not every platform supports an API or toolset to export your content.

But that doesn't mean we're out of luck. We've come up with multiple options to work around these restrictions, and we would love to show you some of those options.

HTTP Basic Authentication

The first option we suggest is doing some quick research to see if your platform supports HTTP Basic Authentication. In simpler terms, it allows authentication credentials to be passed in to their system through HTTP Headers. Sometimes it can be a username and password, and other times it can be some kind of token or secret.

This isn't a popular feature for newer systems, but it can be the most straightforward for many legacy systems.

If the system you want to integrate supports HTTP Basic Authentication, you can create an app by performing the following steps:

  1. Navigate to the RocketScreens CMS.
  2. Go to the Integrations tab.
  3. Click the Add Integration button.
  4. Find and select the Secured Website integration.
  5. Enter the following fields:
    1. A Name for the integration.
    2. A URL to navigate to for the integration.
    3. Provide a Username.
    4. Provide a Password.
  6. Click the Create button.
  7. Now navigate to the Apps tab.
  8. Click the New App button.
  9. Search for the Secured Website app.
  10. In the App settings, select the previously created Integration.
  11. Click Save.

After a few moments, preview the App to see the resulting screenshot of the web page. If it shows a login screen, then you'll need to review the credentials or the support for HTTP Basic Auth.

Still not working? Let's try something else.

Email Attachments and Screenshots

The next option we typically suggest is using either our Email Attachments or Email Screenshots app. These apps allow you to display any content sent out from a system via Email. If you can schedule an email export of a Dashboard or Report, then this may be a good option.

To setup an email:

  1. Navigate to the Apps tab.
  2. Click the New App button.
  3. Search for the either the Email Screenshot or Email Attachment apps. Which depends on how the desired system includes the content, either embedded in the email or as an attached file.
  4. In the App settings, RocketScreens provides an email address. Copy this email address.
  5. Click Save.

Now, when you email content to this address, the content will be pulled out and displayed as content of the app.

NOTE: Some systems may only allow emails to be distributed to users in the system. In this case, we recommend configuring mailbox forwarding. With this setup, emails would be sent directly to a legitimate user/email, and then forwarded to the RocketScreens email address.

Scheduled Exports

Some legacy systems can be configuring to output a Report or Dashboard snapshot to a system or shared folder on a system. As with other approaches, we have a few ways to support this use-case. The primary method to handle this behavior is to configure the export location to be synchronized with some cloud-provided file system. Systems such as OneDrive, SharePoint, Google Drive, or Dropbox all work wonderfully.

Then, in RocketScreens, simply configure one of the above systems as an App. RocketScreens can be configured to load in folders from the aforementioned systems rather than specific files. RocketScreens will then load all content in the folder and display it on your screens.

Push Client

Finally, we have our RocketScreens Push Client. This is an approach we offer for legacy systems which are either hosted on-premise, or cloud hosted but provide no convenient integration methods.

This offering requires assistance from RocketScreens Services for configuration, customization, and initial setup. Our solution uses an architecture which can be hosted on-premise or alongside our cloud, whichever is best for your organization.

While this is something you won't be able to do yourself, we're more than happy to work with you on getting this configured with your systems. In fact, we can usually complete the required customizations within a day or two.

Still unclear on the options?

If none of the options above make sense, or if they don't appeal to you, we would be happy to look at your platform for consideration. We know there are thousands of different systems available, and we pride ourselves on being able to integrate with nearly any platform which is thrown our way.
